Critically praised and artistically acclaimed set- and costume-designer Mia Stensgaard has, for the past 20 years, worked in every major theatre in Copenhagen and on many of the most prestigious stages in Europe. She has skillfully created eye-catching and well-functioning sets for more than 60 productions ranging from modern theatrical performances to the classical repertoire, with opera and ballet in between.

Mia is highly regarded as the production designer on writer/director Anders Thomas Jensen's black-comedic films The Green Butchers, Adam's Apples, and most recently Men & Chicken, for which she received both the illustrious Danish Film Academy Robert Award and the esteemed Henning Bahs Award. Mia's beautifully distinctive art direction can be seen on all three seasons of the internationally popular Danish television series The Legacy by Maya Ilsøe, and in the award-winning feature film Queen Of Hearts by May El-Toukhy.

Three of her most remarkable works are the expansive and expressive set designs for Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, staged at the Royal Opera House in London, and the widely praised new productions of Sir Kenneth MacMillan's Tannhäuser and Manon. For Bournonville’s A Folk Tale at The Royal Danish Theatre, Mia created magical paper-cutout scenography and fantastical fairytale costumes for which she received great acclaim when the Royal Danish Ballet performed in New York and Washington.

For her extraordinary talents as a set- and costume-designer, Mia was honored by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark as a Knight Of The Order Of The Danish Flag. Never one to rest on her laurels, in 2018 Mia founded Vang Stensgaard, an exclusive textile and interior design collaboration with the reknowned costume-artist Anja Vang Kragh.
